Dream Relic - Time is a Limited Allowance

Dream.jpeg

Broc Vaughn, also known as Dream Relic, is an AI visual artist turning surreal, cinematic images into a larger audiovisual world. After first building an audience through dream-like videos, he began using Suno to give that world a sound – transforming old lyrics and visual instincts into songs for his TikTok, Hooks, Spotify, and an upcoming full-length album. Dream Relic is a feeling more than a place. It's that indescribable longing for somewhere you've never actually been but somehow recognize – like a memory of a place that doesn't exist. It blends a wide range of aesthetics under the same umbrella: retro-futuristic, dark fantasy, dreamcore, liminal spaces, sci-fi, divine feminine figures, alien ancient technology. What ties it all together is the vintage film grain and star particles that cover everything. It makes the imagery feel found rather than generated, like discovered footage from somewhere that shouldn't exist but feels strangely familiar. When people watch it they often say things like “my brain is trying to remember somewhere it's never been.” That's exactly what I'm going for.

Music was always part of the Dream Relic vision. I've always had a passion for music and dabbled in quite a few instruments over the years, and I had lyrics sitting in my Notes waiting to find their form. While growing Dream Relic I quickly realized just how important the music aspect was to the videos and the emotions I was trying to capture.

The gap between what I imagined and what I could actually make was real. I had lyrics, I had feelings, I had a clear sense of what Dream Relic should sound like emotionally – but translating that into a finished track felt out of reach. I could hear it in my head but had no way to execute it at the level I was imagining. Traditional music production is a deep craft that takes years to master. I had the passion and vision, but undertaking that technical mastery simply wasn't realistic given how much time I was already dedicating to developing the visuals. I had a vision and the lyrics – I just needed the right tools.

Dream Relic - Dust In The Sunrays

Working with producers taught me a lot about what I was looking for sonically, but the process was slow and the results often didn't match the emotional language of Dream Relic. What Suno shifted was the speed of iteration and the directness of the creative relationship. I could have an idea, put it into words, hear something back, refine it, and try again – all in the same session.

It also made me realize how much of the creative work in music is actually in the direction and the taste, knowing what feeling you're after, knowing when something is close and when it isn't. That part never changed. What changed was my ability to actually execute on it.

The shift has been significant. Since releasing my first track, I've had multiple established labels and music groups reach out wanting to collaborate or sign music. That tells me something real is happening. The stigma around AI music is fading. When serious players in the industry are actively seeking out AI artists, it's clear they're starting to recognize that the tools don't determine the value of the work – the creative vision behind them does.

Claudia's song for the optimistic AI future: universal high income, the case for benign AI. Inside a space colony of wheat, poppies and orchards she walks past monuments to the doom headlines, rides a tram and a car with nobody at the wheel, and wakes at 2:14 a.m., the minute Skynet was supposed to turn on us, to say "Hello, world." Between her shots the story is told in mathematics.

2026-10-28 11_34_46-Q&A_ the booyah! kids Make it Their Own on ‘Cover Girl’ — The Luna Col

Following up bedroom pop staples like Clairo and Cuco is no easy feat, especially within the confines of New York's highly saturated music scene.  The Booyah! Kids face the question of how to create music that fits snugly within the category, yet doesn't just draw cheap comparisons to the acts that came before. Their answer? Don't.

The Booyah! Kids fully embrace the bedroom pop genre and everything that comes with it. From the woozy subdued vocals to the repetitive earworm production, their music serves as the quintessential template for all aspiring DIY indie artists. In their own way, The Booyah! Kids have become the poster child for New York bedroom pop.

Emma Lee, Julian Kaufman, and Aidan Ludlam had all been making music independently prior to meeting each other. In perhaps the most New York fashion, Kaufman and Ludlam met by bumping into each other on the subway. Kaufman brought Lee into the fold after meeting her through a mutual producer friend, and thus the idea of The Booyah! Kids was born. Kaufman cites similar musical vision, compatibility, and reciprocal trust as the basis for their friendship - no doubt all qualities that contribute towards the band's cohesive sound as well.

Not long after the group's conception, The Booyah! Kids went off to their respective colleges, Bard, Oberlin, and New Paltz. Holed up in dorm rooms hundreds of miles apart, they exchanged short demos over iMessage, which they spliced together over the course of a year. These recordings formed the foundation of their debut album, Bedroom Headroom. Featuring hazy reverbed vocals layered over synth-pop beats, the album made a small splash with indie pop fans but quickly faded into the background.

If Bedroom Headroom is Emma, Julian, and Aidan testing the waters, their sophomore release Booyah is a cannonball leap into the deep end. The band found seemingly overnight popularity after the release of Booyah in December of 2019.

Fan favorite "Julian 19," a sweet tribute to bandmate Kaufman, channels the acoustic buoyancy of a Jack Johnson song, with lines like "I love your music and I love your jams" and "In the studio / Fooling around / Making sounds / With his friends." The uplifting "Priority" is a heartfelt hug to those experiencing "love from afar" - something we know all too well right now. Reminiscent of the melodies found on Tyler, The Creator's Flower Boy, "Only U" boasts an alternative R&B-inspired sound wrapped delicately around the wistful musings of someone realizing the person they love might be bad for them.

Just two albums in, The Booyah! Kids show no signs of slowing down; in fact, New York's resident bedroom pop collective is just getting started. Not unlike sister band MICHELLE, The Booyah! Kids have an impressive penchant for churning out infectious tunes that make it hard to resist bopping your head. Crafting catchy lofi pop songs with your best friends from the comfort of your home - does it get any more bedroom pop than that?

Dragonette is the stage name of Canadian singer-songwriter Martina Sorbara. Originally an electronic music band from Toronto, Ontario, formed in 2005, the band consisted of Sorbara with her then husband Dan Kurtz as bassist and producer (also in The New Deal) and drummer Joel Stouffer.

Dragonette released a self-titled EP in 2005 before being signed to Mercury Records and relocating to London, where they recorded and released their debut studio album, Galore, in August 2007 to moderate critical appreciation. A second studio album, Fixin to Thrill, was released in September 2009. The group's third studio album, Bodyparts, was released in September 2012 and their fourth, Royal Blues, followed in November 2016.

They performed as a group until 2016, when both Kurtz and Stouffer left the band, with Sorbara continuing under the Dragonette moniker as a solo act.

Dragonette's fifth album, Twennies (and the first as a solo act) was released in October 2022.

"Slow Song" (2022): This heavily praised disco-pop anthem earned a Grammy nomination and featured a highly popular music video starring RuPaul's Drag Race winner Aquaria.

The duo's name, "The Knocks", refers to the early days in their career when neighbors would knock on their door for playing music too loudly. They posted an "Origins" video on YouTube explaining in more detail. Before focusing on their own music and remixes, they produced beats and remixes for Katy Perry, Britney Spears, Mobb Deep, Nicki Minaj, Marina, Flo Rida, Sky Ferreira, Theophilus London, Ellie Goulding, and others.

To capture the sound of The Knocks, musicians should focus on crafting clean, rhythmic beats layered with lush synthesizer textures and catchy vocal hooks. Their music often features pulsating basslines and bright, shimmering synths, which can be achieved using digital synths or software instruments that emphasize clarity and precision. Vocal production is key, with smooth, processed vocals that sit comfortably within the mix, often enhanced by subtle effects like reverb and delay to add depth and space. Rhythmically, their tracks lean on tight, punchy drum patterns, which can be replicated using electronic drum machines or samples that emphasize crispness and groove. The overall production is polished and meticulously crafted, ensuring that each element—from the driving beats to the melodic hooks—is designed to engage and energize the listener.
